For the past two years, a friend and I have tried to coordinate a photo shoot in Nourot Glass Studio in Benicia. The workshop used to be open every Saturday to amateur glass makers who created works of art in exchange for cleaning the studio. A small community of glass makers developed, but, when the Saturday sessions were cancelled due to costs, several artists felt the sting of losing their creative Saturdays.

Last weekend, I finally made my way to Nourot to witness traditional glass making and– I discovered– a reunion of sorts. As part of Benicia’s open studios, Nourot opened its studio to all the boys that had come for so many weekends and let them do the glass making demos for the crowds that filtered in and out.

This audio slideshow is the product of my photo shoot and still a work in progress. I will consider it complete once I add narration and work on the timing (damn you, iMovie!).
